Street Art

Down each alleyway, on the side of buildings and even on the pavements there is street art as we call it and of course the mandatory graffiti. Interestingly it is unusual to find tags on the artwork itself.

Cafes

Lots of cafes to get a decent cup of coffee even an almond flat white or pumpkin spicy latte!

Fast Food Choices

Lots of food vans and fish and chip shops. Hot dogs (lamb not pork) are a popular go to. And for something sweet there are waffles

Pedestrian roads

There are lots of pedestrian only streets in downtown area

Colourful houses

Lots of colourful houses both large and small here in the downtown area although apartment living in the neighbourhoods is the lot of most of the city’s population, There is corrugated metal on the roofs and the walls.

Packing for a Photography Trip to Iceland in Winter

vghobadi

Iceland is a photographer’s paradise. With its otherworldly landscapes and close proximity to the Arctic Circle, it’s no wonder that this small island country has become a popular destination for photographers looking to capture something truly unique.

If you’re planning on photography trip to Iceland, here are a few things to keep in mind when packing for your trip.

1. One tip is to plan your itinerary in advance so that you make the most of your time here. With so much to see and do, it can be tempting to try and pack too much into your trip. But by planning ahead, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed and make sure that you get to see and photograph all of the places that are most important to you.

2.. The Weather in Iceland is Unpredictable

Although Iceland is located just south of the Arctic Circle, the Gulf Stream helps to keep the island country milder than other areas at similar latitudes. That being said, the weather in Iceland can be quite unpredictable and it’s not uncommon for all four seasons to be represented in a single day.

When packing for my trip, I made sure to pack clothes that can be layered so I can easily adjust to changing weather condition as well as a beanie and scarf. So, a trip to Anaconda with my sister was on my list. A waterproof jacket and pants is also essential as you never know when a snow shower or rainstorm might strike.  I did invest in some photography gloves from Vallerett Photography Gloves as well as some hand and foot warmers!

3. You Will Need Good Walking Shoes

Since much of Iceland’s landscape is inaccessible by roads, a good pair of walking shoes is essential if you want to explore everything this country has to offer. When choosing walking shoes, make sure to pick a comfortable pair that you’ve broken in before as you’ll be doing a lot of walking on uneven terrain.

4. Don’t Forget Your Cameras and Lenses

Of course, no photography trip would be complete without your cameras and lenses. When packing your gear, make sure to double check that everything is secure and well-protected from the elements. Iceland can be tough on equipment so it’s better to err on the side of caution when it comes to protecting your gear. I packed my Sony Mirrorless camera as well my Nikon DSLR together with the following list:

  • Lens cloths and cleaning kit
  • Rain sleeve for my cameras
  • Remote
  • Filters
  • Lenses – wide angel (16-35mm); a medium zoom (24-105mm) and a telephoto (for the Nikon)

5. Bring Extra Batteries and Memory Cards and converter. Standard Europlug socket with 2 round prongs (adapter types F & C)
